I do think in the long run the overall effects of busing etc worked out for the best to bring about a more general levelling of racial attitudes in our society that we can see everywhere today, and that has been in general a good thing for our country, which was the original intent of the law. We are benefitting from those laws now and are all better for them I think, and perhaps many of them will soon be unnecessary. It certainly was a very controversial means to a good end, though.
I sure can't disagree with you that the immediate short term political effect of these laws had a big impact, and a lasting one, on party affiliation. These issues in your list upset voting patterns across the country and became core issues to the Republican party in all sections. I am glad we agree, thanks again.
