Shall we go back to segregation? Keep Jackie Robinson out of baseball? Put the bottom rail back on the bottom where it belongs? The good old days? let me ask you, is this what you would want to return to? Let me also ask you, would YOU be willing to take the place of your so called bottom rail?
You do not think that racial strife and anger and bitterness has not lessened and levelled and that the newest generations of Americans are growing up in a much different world than their parents and grandparents, a better world?
I don't hate the south, I think the south and the whole country is better than ever and that the quality of life has improved for everyone across the entire region and across the entire nation, because Jim Crow times are over. I also thing southern people see this and know it and are proud of it too. I believe there are very few who would actually want to return to those days. I don't know what you are seeing, but I see that the whole country, conservatives, and liberals, all races and classes, from all sections and walks of life, see that the changes in racial attitudes since the 40s-50s-and 60s has been better for everyone. Show me the southern, conservative and republican, or evangelical leaders who say this is not so.
I am proud of the south, maybe you are not, I am proud of the whole country, for finally dealing with the hardest issues, even if the federal government had to make it happen in the south and everywhere. Those laws did not target the south exclusively. I am only saying here that it seems that the southern conservatives who still object to federal action to put an end to open racial injustice, are the same ones demanding now that this same hated federal government step in and overrule states and regulate marriage and pregnancy and religion and other deeply personal issues.
We are the pride and envy of the world, unique among nations, truly great, because of the way we have confronted these racial issues head-on. We aren't perfect, and there are still issues to solve, and maybe the political means used to achieve these ends aren't always popular or the wisest, but they have worked to make THIS Country a better place than any where else on earth, for everyone. Or maybe you just hate America and the dream that attempts to ensure that every American is equal in rights, and has an equal chance to succeed in life?
Recognizing that we have made great strides is not hatred of the south. I ask you again, if you do not share this dream, or believe that great strdies forward have been made, to name the political or religious leaders of the conservative south who advocate returning to segregation, that it would improve our country, and the south, to do so.
