Re: A New Constitution
My most memorable lesson in command came in the first few minutes of Officer Candidate School. We brand-new candidates had just gotten off the bus and were milling around waiting to be welcomed aboard and told what to do next, when a cadre officer marched up and hollered, "Who's in charge here?" We looked around at each other and shrugged our shoulders. He asked again; same blank look from us. Then he said, "First lesson: whenever two or more military personnel are in the same location, someone is always in charge. If it's unclear who's in charge, then take charge." It made quite an impression on me.
