Well Brother, I would think that would qualify you to be considered an "Honorary" son of Illinois. Maybe I better check with Bruce Alardice and Teela and perhaps Ann Laird who you will find on the Illinois page from time to time, to see if they concur. :)
Not to wander to far, but did you know that, that field used to be called Orchard airport (ORD). A small general aviation field. In the 50's, Colonel McCormack who McCormack Place down on the lake was named after, was the mover and shaker that chose that place to build the new Chicago airport. He was going to name it after General George Marshall. It was pointed out to him that people would call it Marshall Field if they did that. Marshall Field was and still is a large retail center, that at the time was owned by the Kennedy family and run by Sargent Shriver. Well, ole Mc could not stand the Kennedy's and liked Shriver even less so that would not do. That is how, he chose Butch OHare who was a navy fighter pilot who earned the CMH, I think, or was it the Navy Cross, for the honor.
