Re: MOH for Lincoln?
In Response To: Re: MOH for Lincoln? ()

That is true. Being awarded the M.O.H. during the CW was a very subjective matter and had nothing to do with Valor in a LOT of cases. The M.O.H. was awared on several occations for a soldier who mearly walked across the battlefiled and picked up Confederate Battle flags off the ground. This is the reasoning why so many of the Medal awards were recinded in the 1917 purge.

The point is that the Congressional Medal Of Honor Society have some very high standards and has be very instrutmental in making the Medal the award of honor that it is today. That is the reason why I comment, 'would Lincoln meet the qualification for being awarded the M.O.H. today?'

Simply being shot as a casuality of War, no matter what your rank or position, is NOT suffice grounds to be awarded the M.O.H. in todays criterial. Althought the medal has been awarded for political purposes, recended and then re-awarded again to the same person, again for political purposes, Awarding the M.O.H. for political or idealogical reasons, even if it is to Abraham Lincoln, would only demean the Medal.
