I too have that ten year medal. I was also on active duty for eleven years in the Navy. What used to irk us was the amount of medals the other services gave their enlisted. I didn't get any decorations to wear until my 1st Good Conduct award (four years!). Once I got deployed overseas then we started seeing a few medals, but still not many. Later, after the 1st Gulf War the Navy opened up and we started getting more ribbons and decorations. I retired with a three complete rows and one on top, so I was pretty proud. But that period right after Vietnam and up until the 1st Gulf War was very dry for many of us.
