Anything alone that line that shows the New England states wanted to protect the slave trade is fine with me. I have a discussion going on with a person who states slavery is included in the Constitution at the insistence of the South. Doyle's source and other sources hint that the New England states wanted slavery included in the either the Articles of Confederation or the Constitution. I also read something on a Compact of 1789, but cannot find anything using that search term.
