Re: The Alternative to CW - Lincoln's Position?

I tend to agree with you, Chief, but, as an alternative, I thought I would ask the question just to find out if anyone knows of any document that advocates even the investigation of assimilation. I have not and, from my 21st century perch, it seems so reasonable I have a hard time believing that not one influential politician did not investigate it 150 years ago. In that statement, I amy have answered my own question, i.e., were an influential politician to have looked into it, his "influentialness" might have come come to a speedy conclusion.

Let's see what the others say. I hope someone with a northern tilt might toss in his or her 2 cents worth on this one.
