"that he might adjust the rope around your neck"

That's a MOM for you. Full of compassion and understanding. And ready to see you along on your final journey. Kind of adds a different perspective to Mrs. Bixby's supposed letter from Lincoln. Thanks David. You have a knack for uncovering some of the best obscurities from the private citizen. I'm going to typeset that "all nice and pretty" with a picture of Mr. Brown to adorn the walls of my office. I have collected quite a few such inspirational quotes over the years. I fix them into a nice display for others to see. One of the all time best though I must say is the following. I read it often as inspiration and understanding of those that were willing to give the last full measure. I saved this one quite a while back. As I remember, you shared this one too.

"Let me die upon the field of battle in the front ranks as an example to those who's duty it is to free the South from the iron hand of tyranny. What care I, though my name may never be put in print, nor my country know I shed my blood for her freedom. What a worthless man is he who only acts to be seen of men. God sees and understands the honest heart."

Capt. Elijah Slay's (Co C, 16th Miss Inf) final diary entry.

Your best of friends,

Keith
