The Gettysburg Park is maintaining a double plank-and-rail fence along almost the entire length of the Emmitsburg Road in the a park. Did it exist at this length and completeness during the time of battle? Many Confederate soldiers never wrote about the fence in their accounts. There are references I've found that state it was not continuous and could be avoided at northern and southern points. The fields between the Confederate and Union lines were undulating with enough diffences in height to hide from direct fire in safety. Many Confederate units stopped in these areas to reform and then marched back out into the Union forces line of fire. So that is why I question if this fence was entirely visible from all points along Seminary Ridge.
