Re: Lincoln, did he have terminal cancer

Many have speculated about his haggard appearence in the late war photographs compared to pre-war and early war. Most have attributed to the stress of the Office demands during the War.

But some have attributed his appearence to the depression that he was prone to have after the death of his son. And his almost daily taking of a common medicine of the time called "Blue Mass", which was commonly prescribed for such ailments as depression, which was a Mercury Oxide paste pill. It would be interesting to see if he was indeed suffering from Mercury poisoning as did so many other Union Soldiers after the war.
