As long as the flag is not defaced, used for political purposes or misused, I have no problem with it. I saw a docu film on the Van Zant's years ago and in their home was a collection of Civil War weapons and flags on display in their den, so I believe they know exactly what the flag is about. The band was created while Ronnie attended Robert E. Lee High School in Jacksonville, Fla., and is named for one of its teachers. (Nathan Bedford Forrest High School was their rival). Their music is not about the Civil War but it is about the truth in the lives of common Southerners. The flag is used as a symbol of Southern unity, community, pride and family over the last 140 years in this context.
