In my opinion, no cause is truly lost as long as there exists a memory of it. Consider the long history of the Roman Empire. It rose and it fell. The Celts, Brits, etc. still had a memory of life before the Romans. Rome fell for a reason. And there were many. I suppose that history will always keep repeating itself.
