We had a todo in Florida about two years ago over the state song. Suwannee River has been the state song for decades. An updated, PC version was used. The consensus by Floridians was there was nothing wrong with the song and we didn't want to change it. They had a contest and someone wrote the winning song, My Florida, that sounds like a funeral dirge, and it was adopted as the contemporary state song so now we have 2. When ideas were asked for, I submitted Seminole Wind by John Anderson as the song best representing the state and there were many more of the same mind. I believe this was a set up job from the get go and it backfired. I was surprised at the number of people who gave their opinion though. I figured no one really cared. Nice to know I was wrong.
When it comes to Dixie, I feel as I do over the National Anthem, do it one way only, the right way.
