With the case of A.T. Stewart as David said his body was stolen however, for a different reason. It was sold back to his wife and NOT to a medical college. Lincoln's body almost met this fate and Phil Sheridan's father came very close to being stolen for the purpose of selling the body back to Phil. So many bodies were being stolen that a device called the "Clover torpedo bomb" was designed. When the coffin was opened the bomb would explode. More than one body snatchers life ended this way. Today many Clover torpedo caskets are still in the ground. If the caskets seal is still intact (which would be rather rare) than the casket would be extremly unstable today. One of these days someone might be moving the wrong graveyard and it will be a news worthy event. A whole new meaning to RIP (Rest in Pieces.)
