So, you separate slavery away from the reason for the "war", and that makes the South look better???
I've heard that argument before from other self proclaimed modern day Southern Heritage folk, and it won't stand up to what the Southern leaders were saying during the Secession crisis.
As usual, folk justify the southern cause in today's society, by downplaying slavery and try to come up with more palatable reasons for secession, which lead to war.
