Secession was brought about by the desire, because of the political conditions, for the southern states to govern themselves. Since when is the desire for self government, otherwise known as freedom, not a good enough reason to go to war? Is it only not desirable when the other country, The United States, does not wish to grant you that freedom?

I love this paradox that Freedom is a very desirable thing to seek, except when it involves seeking your freedom from the United States. Then it is alright for freedom loving people to surpress that desire for freedom when it involves keeping the United States united.

I love this never ending contridictory mobius loop of American thinking, that we want all people to experience freedom and be out from under the rule of dictators and repressive governments, except Americans.
