But to what point or purpose do we add to this list?
Those of us who know this history know it well and do not need to be reminded. It is the things we discuss among ourselves without end.
Those who do not know these things, or think that the end of an objective justifies all methods employed to reach that objective, will not change their perspective.
One question our northern brethern have never answered is; Whether or not it is moral to use one immorality (war) to correct another immorality (ending Slavery)? Clearly the abolishionist in 1859 thought it was. But what of our modern day sencibilities? what do we think?
A second such question is; Is it moral for a people to repress (by war) the desire for self governance of another people (the southern states) simply to maintain their political power (preserve the Union)?
If we did a polling question in the general public today, of these two questions {without the (historical context)}, I wonder what the poll results would be?
