Re: Lincoln's belief on the "cause"

Why not? Is it not important that he understood the issues clearly? It seems Lincoln ignored the political rhetoric and focused on the main issues. After the Tariff and Nullification Crisis failed to stir the South to action, President Jackson warned slavery would be used next, by a select group of Southerners, determined to break away from a unnatural union, as the next political subject to worry the public about.
