I have no quarrel with any of the responses that have been posted regarding this issue.
The point I am making is that the legal arguments over post-Civil-War secession and division have been argued and the court precedents have been filed. While it is not impossible that those precedents might be overturned, it will take much more than a speech by Rick Perry or Jim Hightower or (for that matter) Kinky Friedman to overthrow the court decisions and precedents.
FWIW- I supported Kinky as an ex-pat in the last gubernatorial election. My children are birthright citizens of the Republic and my 86-year-old father (still a resident of the Republic) volunteered and worked directly with Kinky's campaign. I expect we will all do in 2010 as we did before -- with the exception that my son will be of-age and more able to take an active part at that time.
