And by 1864, the Souix in Minnesota had been so badly treated they revolted, and Lincoln hanged 38 of them. Also, I have a book written by Captain Eugene Ware, titled "The Indian War of 1864". It is not about the Minnesota Souix, but the plains Indians, along the Platte. Ware is assigned escort and patrol duty, and outlines the hardships of this service.
