Re: My dad and me at the Pea Ridge Battle Field

Dad never said what it was, and I never asked him. I left home for the Navy at 18, and we never got around to it. His dad, my GF, was born in 1859, and grew up during Reconstruction. His dad, my GGF, died at Seven Pines, so the only stories he would have had were his two uncles, both of whom survived wounds and captivity, a year in Camp Douglas in one case, and over eight months at Point Lookout in the other. They came home, and lived until 1899 and 1906. I was only just short of five when Granddaddy passed in Decenber of 1942. He was fifty four when Dad was born. Dad went to work at Glover Machine Works at thirteen, where Grandaddy worked. I think the fact they worked together, and the age difference, made it unlikely they talked much about the past. Stan
