My GGF Lemuel H. Boring having died at Seven Pines while the 18th Ga. was part of the Texas Brigade, I had two great uncles at Gettysburg. By then the 18th had been transferred to Cobb's Brigade, after Col. Wofford had commanded the Texas Brigade at Antietam, where they fought in the Cornfield. They were at the stone wall at Fredericksburg, when Cobb was mortally wounded. Wofford was promoted to Brigadier General. After Fredericksburg the Brigade was known as Wofford's Brigade. S.Z. Ruff was promoted to Col. at the same time, and commanded the regiment until his death at Knoxville. My great uncles, Alexander N. Boring and Francis A. Boring, were in Co. A, 18th Ga. Infantry, Wofford's Brigade, McLaws' Division, Longstreet's First Corps. They followed Barksdale though the Peach Orchard and fought in the Wheatfield, in the attack on Little Round Top on the 2nd. Francis was later captured in Roswell, Georgia while at home recuperating from a wound received at Spottsylvania in May. He was captured July 11, 1864, and sent to Camp Douglas. Uncle Alex was captured October 19th at Cedar Creek. He was sent to Point Lookout. They were paroled in June 1865 and waked home to Cobb County, Ga. Stan
