Sounds like Butler had his own agenda. It would seem those who spoke the loudest, and caused the most uproar were the ones the elected officials listened to. I know this isn't the place, but there are issues today that I can see a comparison. The more I'm seeing this, the more I understand just what States Rights means.
It is amazing that one issue could be thought to have such an effect on the nation as a whole that it caused it's division. I don't see it. One issue would not do that.
