My GGGrandfather was in the 8th Fl. Inf and y'all have heard the story of his capture at Gettysburg and stay at Ft Delaware. He ended up here in Escambia County a year or so after the war. He never stopped hating "Yank's". His pretty much favorite grandson married a Yankee girl from Penn. when he was in the Navy and brought her here to live. Well, that was confusing to Pinckney. He would tiptoe around her and wouldn't talk to her. That sort of spooked her and my GUncle tried to explain why. She finaly cornered Pinckney one day and told him she was married into his family and he needed to accept it. She also made a point of telling him her parents came from Germany after the war so they had NO part in it. He relaxed after that and they got along well. She's the one who cared for him as he lay on his death bed. He ended up adoring her and she him.
