I just went back and looked at the records. Newton Knight of Jasper County, in 1860 was married with one child, his estate was worth $300, his land $800. Average slaves at this time by age was worth $800-$1800. He is not listed as a slave owner on the slave schedule in 1860. The 1866 Mississippi Census, shows him married with four Children, no freed blacks or mixed raced peoples in the family. Newton at one time was a Sergeant in Co. F of the 7th Batt. CSA. His records show he enlisted, twice, into Mississippi units.

I said his name was Knewt, it was really Newton.
