I'm from this area. The people there over the years hardly change. The stories that I have heard are near impossible to prove and I've learned that you have to talk a big sampling of salt when you hear most of these stories. Stories like the "Free State of Jones" and Newton Knight are examples of an incident being blow well out of porportion to the facts by wild and over exaggerated home spun stories. Many stories were created on purpose in order to protect someones reputation or to keep outsiders from "comin round". Up until I was a teenager old folks talked about Newt Knight as he were still alive. We were warned of areas of those woods to stay well clear of. Since the roads have been paved, those myths have been put to rest. The old ghost don't exist anymore.
