John Mosby was a great partisan leader. I would not place him in the same category as most men labeled as bushwackers. He did not execute captured prisoners and he got some grudging respect from the yankee soldiers. I never saw a dark side to him.
Men I am thinking of would the likes of Champ Ferguson (who disgusts me) and Sam Hildebrand, who wrote a fascinating autobiography in 1870. He is my favorite Missouri bushwacker.
