In addition to my first response, this is why I believe the South was in no way going to rid itself of slavery...

No importation of new slaves…slaves automatically on hand became more economically valuable.
Constitution said Confederate Government could not interfere with States right to slavery.
Big gripe was Fed Gov. and Northern anti-slave states interfered with returning runaway slaves (NOT an unfair charge!)
Southern slave champions rounded up and murdered supposed anti-slave folk in the South, with out proper trials/hearings, and on hearsay and lies. We see this in Northern Alabama, Arkansas, and during the “Texas Troubles” to name just a few.
South seceded because of fear from threats from the “Black Republicans” were going to take away slavery.

If there was a big movement to emancipate slaves into Southern society BEFORE the war, I would have a differing opinion.
