I believe the units in the Trans-MS were in relatively good shape because I do not recall reading about any consolidations after early 1863. Had Davis known the outcomes of the Red River and Camden Campaigns, he might have ordered a substantial number of troops East. That would have been a heck of a logisitical effort.
