Newton's analysis shows that PFD for the Army of Northern Virginia remained fairly constant during the second half of 1864 (June 3-Dec. 31, 1864).

Just my impression, but it seems that rolls of Alabama regiments serving under Lee include large numbers of conscripts assigned during 1864. In addition, free blacks began to be conscripted and assigned to quartermasters and engineer officers as replacements for able-bodied white soldiers.
