I don't see that the war had anything to do with innoculating Americans for the brutality of indian wars. This nation, from the earliest colonial period on, has had no problem waging relentless war against native Americans. Whether King Phillip's War, the wars on the Virginia frontier, Sullivan's decimation of the Iroqouis, the wars against the Seminoles and Creeks, the Cherokee Removal, and the myriad of wars with various tribes from Texas to Oregon before and after the war, Americans, north and south, have been quite willing to fight and to do so brutally.
