Cump, I was suffering an "old geezer" moment when I said Davis was the author. You are right, Charles Bracelen Flood is the author. There is a book titled "This Astounding Close: The Road to Bennett Place"
by Mark L. Bradley that everybody should read. It is the account of the end of the war and the surrender of the Army of Tennessee. Most of us Rebs forget that Lincoln was assasinated during this time. Sherman performed, in my opinion, a near miracle in the way he kept his troops under control. If ever his army felt like lighting fires and seeking revenge this must have been it. I also believe many southerners don't realize how generous Sherman's original terms were. So generous he himself got into a world of grief over it. Check this book out sometime. It's worth a read.
P.S.___ Sherman sure kept good whiskey around... signed, Breckenridge :-)
