I appreciate your position and congratulate you for attempting to communicate with "those people." They probably feel inundated by folks insisting the war had nothing to do with slavery. After that it becomes difficult for them to accept anything more.

That's why IMHO it becomes incumbent for Southern partisans to bring an argument that treat both sides openly and fairly. For instance, it's important to fashion a presentation that includes the "cornerstone" statement.
