My bloodline holds a grudge!

My Great Great Great Great Great Great Great Great Great Grandfather, Reverand Robert Jordan, born in England and settled in Maine did not think much of the Puritans and "Republicans" of Massachusetts, who had taken juristiction over the Maine Colony in the 1650s. My ancestor, a leader of the community resisted their authority and was arrested and jailed for this resistance and the for some of the following statements in 1662....

-He had said of Reverend John Cotton (an eminent Puritan minister of Boston, who had died in 1652) that he was a liar, and died with a lie in his mouth, and was gone to hell with a pack of lies - his books were lies, and he had found them so ; " also for that he had said : " the governor of Boston was a rogue, and all the rest thereof were traitors and rebels against the king, and by the power he and they (the said Jordan and others) had, they could command the (Boston) governor to assist them, and if any did rebel against their power, they would take them and hang them, or burn their houses; " [My ancestor, it is written, believed he had the King on his side and was determined never to cower down to Puritans and Republicans whom he considered usurpers and rebels. He was always at odds with the courts of Massachusetts and he never yielded or obeyed their orders.]

His descendant, David S. Jordan, born in Tennessee in 1822, would serve in the Confederate forces around Mobile, Ala., my Great Great Great Grandfather.

Wow, it never ends! LOL
