I'm not in position to answer you question, and apologize for being an annoyance. My post was simply a reminder that no group of citizens living in one part of the country acted in concert with one another that could be called "North" or "South".

If I may offer a more recent example, those of us old enough to remember the racial turmoil of 1963 know enough to understand that there was no one "civil rights movement". Three major organizations promoting civil rights -- SNCC, CORE and SCLC -- were rivals whose leaders fought each other as much as anything else. For instance, during the summer of 1963 leaders of SNCC in Albany GA were humiliated to have to ask for help from Martin Luther King and the SCLC.
