DOH!! I forgot your stipulation that he was DEAD, which would preclude her knowing where to find him. And now that you mention he died at Camp Morton in 1863, it does not seem likely she was trying to cover something up. Still, it would seem odd the notice of death would not have reached her in over two years or that she would have some logical reason to deny it.
