Edward, have you read The Real Lincoln: A New Look at Abraham Lincoln, His Agenda, and an Unnecessary War? Even if you just read the brief review by Walter E., there is much agreement with your point of view. Many people, including yours truly, believe Lincoln was a genuine tyrant. The author evidently agrees and suggests that he was a Great War Monger (my words). In other words, fomenting the War was Lincoln's design to succede in centralizing the U.S. and C.S into an empire with a national bank, a strong federal government and corresponding weak state governments.
And the kindest thing I can say about Lincoln is that he did not believe the War would be so long with so much death and destruction. That was an afterthought.
