That will never happen within our present political structure, and our politicians are not intent on changing back, because the majority of people are too soft and want someone else (the Government) to make life easy for them. That is what will collapse the government we presently have. It will happen when the Government Checks bounce.
If I said anything like along the lines that you suggest it was in the context that the 9th And 10th Amendments and the Constitution itself were still in effect as much today as they ever have been. But I will admit that it is being ignored (corrupted). The Constitution IS STILL the best answer to our problems and the best political document ever written. There is nothing wrong with the Constitution. It will be the answer again in the future. Free men will not willingly give up their freedom for long.
Maybe we will get back to The Constitution once this present form of Government collapses. But the government will have to collapse because the American people have become too dependent on that Government providing for their daily comfort and needs. And I do not see them willingly weaning themselves off from those "Government benefits", which the people have to be taxed to provide. It is a never ending, ever increasing, Mobius Loop. As more taxes are placed upon the people, more people will become destitute.
I am becoming more and more convienced that whatever Government is formed after that collapse will not include all 50 of the present states in one body. I personally see this Country dividing into 4, or maybe 5, groups of states, which would have common economic self interests, such as the Old Confederate states. I also see most of those states still using some form of the Constitution as their basic government. And Maybe that wouldn't be a bad idea for the Governors of the states to begin talks along those lines of what to do IF such a collapse does happen. Because we can not pay our federal debt. Which Lincoln started. And we can not keep increasing that National Debt by giving everyone everything they want.
That is what Lincoln truely left behind after the war, a country where a large portion of the people were no longer self sufficent. Where 4,000,000 ex-slaves were left destitute without means to provide for themselves, as well as the southern whites, whose livelyhood, and means of making a living, had been destroyed. That destitution has lasted until the present day and planted the seeds that it was right for the Government to "take care" of people. And, 'if the Government will take care of that person, why won't it take care of ME?', is the question, and the opiate drug, that will destroy us.
