Re: Sherman's Legacy

Cump, the bulk of my Naval career was spent during the Cold War, when we were also playing a "Great Game" with the Russians. More than once we were shadowed by Russian ships or planes when I was on various missions. Once, aboard the USS St. Paul, moored in the Bosporus at Constantinople, a Russian cruiser passed by on its way out of the Black Sea. As they passed us, we and they manned our rails and rendered proper honors. A weird feeling, knowing that at some other time and place, we might have been trying to sink each other. I am very glad we never had to have a hot war with them, as Patton wanted after the German surrender. Stan
