"The fact is that several ex-confederates who still had their Citizenship were elected to the U.S. Congress in 1865, in accordence to the laws at that time. But were denied their seats by the northern delegation in Congress in December 1865. A questionable action.

As we all know that Lee was "historically" denied an such oppertunity by having his citizenship rights denied until well after his death. Over a hundred years later in fact. Something that under the Constitution is again legally questionable."

Among them Gen. W.T. Wofford, Wofford's Brigade, late of the 18th Georgia and theTexas Brigade. He went home and started a newspaper. Didn't we see on this board a story about the discovery of Lee's Amnesty, dated about 1867, but "lost" in the files?

"Article 1.

Section. 5.

Each House shall be the Judge of the Elections, Returns and Qualifications of its own Members, and a Majority of each shall constitute a Quorum to do Business; but a smaller Number may adjourn from day to day, and may be authorized to compel the Attendance of absent Members, in such Manner, and under such Penalties as each House may provide.

Each House may determine the Rules of its Proceedings, punish its Members for disorderly Behaviour, and, with the Concurrence of two thirds, expel a Member.

Each House shall keep a Journal of its Proceedings, and from time to time publish the same, excepting such Parts as may in their Judgment require Secrecy; and the Yeas and Nays of the Members of either House on any question shall, at the Desire of one fifth of those Present, be entered on the Journal.

Neither House, during the Session of Congress, shall, without the Consent of the other, adjourn for more than three days, nor to any other Place than that in which the two Houses shall be sitting."

Paragraph 1. gives Congress the authority to declare an election void, or an electee not qualified, or, after being seated, expelled by a voe of two thirds, as in Paragraph 2. It would be intresing to see if any of this comes up if Brown wins in Massachusetts next week. Stan
