Joe, sorry I misinterpreted your post. It looked as if you were piling on. I apologize. Still, given the opprobium Longstreet suffered, while John Mosby followed roughly the same political path, without being treated as badly as Longstreet, is very interesting. Longstreet's widow, many years his junior, spent her life after his death trying to regain his reputation. Longstreet had been a part of Grant's wedding, along with A.P. Hill, another classmate at West Point. While Hill was killed in the last days of the war, it seems logical that Grant and Longstreet would resume their friendship after the cessation of hostilities. When Simon Bolivar Buckner was captured at Ft. Donelson, Grant repaid a debt of $50 to Buckner, so he would have some resources while a POW. It was a different time, which we sometimes forget. Stan
