I agree with what you are saying for the reason they made the attempt to leave the Union. I think it would have probably been better if they'd had more ducks in a row before doing it. Like England's help or some supply lines that couldn't be stopped. Up until Gettysburg, they were doing well holding their own. Then came Grant, Sherman, and the stranglehold was on really tight. Went downhill after that. With the supply line in place, it would probably been a different ballgame. The spirits were willing but the spirits can't produce bullets or medical supplies out of thin air.
