Re: The sacking of Holly Springs, MS...long

I did some follow-up research to determine the truth of this story and found...

John D. Martin and William F. Mason, according to the 1860 Federal census of Holly Springs, Mississippi, were neighbors and very wealthy; Dr. J. H. Ingraham was a clergyman of the church and was born in Maine. The 1860 census did not locate a Mr William H. Cox in Holly Springs, however a William Henry Cox from South Carolina built one of the biggest mansions in Holly Springs in 1845 on a plantation called "Galena". More research on the Galena Plantation gave up more history than I expected and truely right out of a Faulkner short story.
