Re: Mississippi Judge's Autobiography

Interesting post. For me the leaders of the Southern secession movement, starting as far back as the 1820's, were for, more than any other object, the complete and utter separation from the North. The fire-eaters looked for any reason to stir the emotions of Southerners to this end. Secession, it is proved, could not protect slavery. These were some of the most intelligent men of their age and place, and I cannot believe they did not understand what the outcome of secession would have been to the institution of slavery.
