Funny how this quote seems to have legs no matter how many times it is brought before the board. I guess it is just such a provocative, admission of the South's role in sustaining the Federal Government that it begs a legitimate source citation which includes date, place, context, occasion and to whom it was said. You find such a citation on that EXACT quote, George, and I will eat some crow from long ago (called "Old Crow") when I declared for the board to see that it had no source citation, not at least a citation that puts those EXACT words coming out of Lincoln's own mouth. Until then, I stand by my conclusion of three or four years ago - he never said it!
