There's a lady buried at our St Michael's Cemetery in Pensacola. Her name is Delity Powell. She and her family traveled with the Confederate troops and were cooks and then later she was a nurse. This was when she was all of 14 years of age. She later was granted a pension for service in the Confederate Army in her own right. Not from a father or husband, but her very own. To the best of our knowledge, and the researchers who have tried to look for others, it seems she was the only female to do so.
