Stan, you are referring to the Red River War, that I mentioned earlier. The end of the War of Northern Aggression led to a huge migration to Texas and along with it, the Union Army. This was also the early days of the Buffalo soldiers. The Comanches had lost too much ground, too many ponies and had too many soldiers hunting them on both sides of the Rio Grande----with Maximilion's defeat in Mexico.

Reservation life did not work out so well for the plains Indians as it did the 5 Civilized Tribes. They were hunters and gatherers, not farmers. Banishment to reservations, malnutrition, hopelessness and disease virtually accomplished what the Texans wanted all along. The Comanches and Kiowas were decimated in the process. The feelings still run strong today. And Quanah Parker, though he became a celebrity in the white man's world, was a controversy with his own people due to his reconciliation.
