Re: Confederate History Month
Joe...the purpose of the post was to show that for the first time a Virginia governor gave Confederate History Month more than just a little lip service and then later denied any association with it. McDonnell's statement (I know he didn't write it) actually promoted the grand history of the state and offered a promotion of the study of it. It's affects on those back then as well as us now. Millions of dollars are spent every year in a small Pennsylvania town that saw the Civil War "up close and personal" for about a week. Richmond and the surrounding area were consumed with the war from the beginning until the end. But most want to forget the past and pave over it or "slave" over it. Richmond is sitting on a gold mine of 19th century history that the city leaders would choose to ignore or re-write. It was uplifting to actually hear positive language about this great state's history. Because when it boils right down to it...all of America was at one time VIRGINIA.
