I know Adm. Elmo Zumwalt's father was named James Zumwalt and from another website I find this info-- 1876 Frank Giannini plants first wine grapes in this area. James Zumwalt (grandfather of Admiral Elmo Zumwalt) arrives in Tulare and builds the Palace Ranch Northwest of Tulare.

That means it is possible that James Zumwalt could have served in the WBTS. Looking at the CWS&S I see two soldiers listed as James Zumwalt serving in Texas units. Can someone tell me if one of the men is James Zumwalt, grandfather of Adm. Elmo Zumwalt.
